The New Jersey Devils will step on the ice for the first time as a lackluster effort from the Buffalo Sabres.
Having a break, the Devils are looking for a better outing than at Buffalo. They were losers in another game that featured a few defensive breakdowns by a score of 7-2. After blowing a 4-0 lead from the Jets to lose 5-4 in a shootout, the Devils responded with a 7-2 loss in Buffalo.
Thats a fast way to lose fan support in two matches. There was plenty of hype all summer surrounding this Devils team. The acquisition of P.K. Subban was among the most discussed movements of the offseason and Jack Hughes fell in their hands after getting fortune in the draft lottery.
It is apparent that the defensive investment that the Devils made on Subban has not made an impact nevertheless. Is Subban to blame? Surely not. First, its only moment and game, the blue line requires aid. They cant only rely upon Subban. He was the best guy on the market which the Devils might have brought in, but it does not indicate that the Devils have depth.
The Devils will also be looking for health and consistency between the pipes. One game into the season and Cory Schneider had to leave the match because of stringing, leaving the crease. Blackwood was back against the Sabres on net and of course went wrong as well. Schneider is advised to be back tonightbut he should find a rhythm and consistency . Adding Subban to the equation will likely be irrelevant if Schneider plays and doesnt remain healthier.
The Flyers will play just their second match of the year tonight after hammering the Blackhawks so they have had a much larger layoff compared to Devils. The NHL schedule can be a bit all over the area early in the season. Carter Hart, who made a name for himself last season, will understand the crease for the Flyers. Head below for our free Devils vs. Flyers pick.
When things begin to click for the Devils this year they are likely to be a really fun team to watch. The development of rookie Jack Hughes is going to be critical to their entire potential being reached by the Devils. He is only 18 years older, thus we have to keep this in mind when assessing him thus far. It hasnt been great news for him, as he hunts for his first point in the NHL.
The only numbers that Hughes has already reported that it two matches played using a +/- of -3. Hughes has also listed 3 shots on web. Back-checking for forwards in the NHL can be challenging and requires time to grow. Guys are a good deal quicker than they are used to and it requires some getting used to. In the meantime the Devils are likely going to keep defensively on the ice together, although it should come to Hughes. Getting paired together with Blake Coleman and Wayne Simmonds about the third line helps, as Coleman and Simmonds are a Couple well-rounded veterans.
Cory Schneider was in his profession under average against the Flyers. In 12 games played with, Schneider has submitted a 2.90 GAA and 0.897 save percent. Its incredible like that the Flyers come outside and harness the New Jersey defence in their home opener. While Schneider has been strong in his career at home using a 2.20 GAA, it slides into a 2.60 GAA when travelling to the street.
Carter Hart played with one game against a rookie plus the Devils. He had been shaky with a 3.15 GAA and 0.885 save percent. The Flyers were winners with a score of 6-3 in their most recent meeting on March 1st. Together with the defence reeling for the Devils, anticipate the Flyers to put a functionality with 5 or 3 targets together. They enabled 12 goals and this number should grow larger tonight. I like a 5-4 or 5-3 closing using all the OVER a fantastic stake in Philadelphia tonight.
