Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has declared the European Qualifier against Switzerland the game of Thursday since his return.
The Republic head to the clash with the Group D favourites realizing they face their sternest test yet, although sitting of the heap with 10 points from a possible 12.
Asked if it was the greatest game as he took over from Martin O’Neill past November, McCarthy said:”Oh of course, yes, without a doubt, yes.
“We have had our first games – we’ve done well in those – but Switzerland and Denmark are arguably the best two teams and we’ve got one of these playing (on Thursday) night.”
McCarthy will attempt to procure a victory on the negative now ranked 11th in the world with not one of the pool of strikers having a senior goal.
But he insisted that he doesn’t care where the goals receive.
The 60-year-old stated:”I am not bothered where they come from, but I think the strikers might argue that. They’d like to score the targets.
“But if they come off and we have won, I still do not think anybody’s bothered, and which is going to be exactly the same (on Thursday night) when we win.
“Nobody is going to be bothered who scores.”
Right-back Seamus Coleman has talked about the absence of Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri in the Switzerland squad, after the winger made himself unavailable for selection for the national team.
Appreciates it will still be match, despite Shaqiri’s exclusion.
He explained:”Look, he is a dangerous player. He’s one of those who will turn on it and evaluate a goal before you know it.
“Obviously it is a boost for us that he’s not enjoying.
“However, a group of quality would have people to come in and replace him. I know it’s boring, but we just have to focus on ourselves.”
