Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has declared Thursday Qualifier from Switzerland the largest game since his return.
The Republic head into the clash with the Band D appeared knowing they face their sternest test yet, although sitting of the heap with 10 points from a possible 12.
Asked if it had been the greatest game since he took over from Martin O’Neill past November, McCarthy said:”Oh of course, yes, even without a doubt, yes.
“We have had our very first games – we have done well in those – but Switzerland and Denmark will be arguably the top two groups and we’ve got one of these playing (on Thursday) night.”
McCarthy will attempt to guarantee a victory over the negative currently ranked 11th in the world having a senior goal to their name.
But he insisted that he does not care where the goals receive.
The 60-year-old stated:”I’m not bothered where they come from, but I think the strikers might argue that. They want to score the targets.
“But should they come off and we’ve won, I don’t think anyone’s bothered, and that will be the same (on Thursday night) when we win.
“Nobody will soon be bothered who scores”
After the winger made himself unavailable for selection for the national team, right-back Seamus Coleman has spoken about Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri’s lack from the Switzerland group.
Coleman, who plays Merseyside rivals Everton, enjoys it will continue to be game, despite the exclusion of Shaqiri.
He explained:”Look, he is a dangerous player. He is among those who evaluate a goal before you know it and will put on it.
“Obviously it is an increase for us that he’s not playing.
“However, a group of quality could have people to come in and replace him. I know that it’s boring, but we simply need to concentrate on ourselves.”
