Chris Wilder states Sheffield United will keep their”bullish” approach to Premier League matches when they host high-flying Arsenal on Monday.
The Blades dropped out on a valuable draw against league leaders last month and have won eight points from their opening eight matches on their return to the top flight.
Wilder describes the challenge introduced by leading his boyhood club against the top as an”event” and insists his team don’t have an inferiority complex – even against a side that sit and have dropped one match less than winners Manchester City.
“We are competitive and we fancy our chances,” Wilder said.
“We are bullish because you can obviously imagine because that’s the approach that we carry. We had been against Liverpool.
“The crowd are absolutely amazing at home and that’s not rubbing their heads because they understand just how important it is for them to be on front and make it aggressive and noisy.
“The previous manager who came [Jurgen Klopp] commented [the air ] as well, which was a real pat on the back for how our earth was put up and air inside it,” he further added.
“We’ll need this on Monday night and I am certain that will occur. A night game at Bramall Lane beneath the lights, live on Sky, something that we are actually looking forward to getting after the resistance but knowing the caliber they have obtained”
Wilder thinks his side’s performances in Bramall Lane have deserved longer as the club try to keep their Premier League status next season although sheffield United have won six of their points.
“I believe we’ve not been a defensive-minded team that’s extremely supportive and gives us a lot of confidence,” he said.
“We’ve got after groups, we got after Liverpool in the time that we can and chose our times and we are likely to need to do the same against Arsenal on Monday.”
Even with Arsenal’s powerful start to the league campaign head coach Unai Emery has faced pressure within his stance in certain areas but Wilder claims as a manager you learn to ignore the”noise and nonsense” that includes the job.
“They will know that they have got quality because group and as a supervisor,” the Blades boss said.
“We all must put our hands on our ears sometimes and block out all the noise and get on with the most crucial thing which is winning points and adding to this total.”
Wilder has backed Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson to create the step after the goalkeeper given his belief he could become the best on earth.
Henderson credited Blades goalkeeping coach Darren Ward for his advancement Wilder is filled with praise for his goalkeeper and since he joined during their advertising period with the club last semester.
“I have complete confidence in [Darren]. It is obviously my fault when Dean makes a mistake and if he is excellent Darren gets the credit – which is how it goes” Wilder said.
“He’s a confident boy, he is a popular boy. He’s worked really difficult for this place and he wants more. I really like that attitude and it works through my squad.”
