The UTEP Miners stay after a win over Houston Baptist this week in the state of Texas.
A win over Houston Baptist, a group who have won just two matches that the past two decades, is not the finest of wins. But it’s the first win at home since November of 2016 of UTEP, and that was reason to watch to the Miners. It gave soccer fans in El Paso a thing to take their minds.
UTEP were led by Treyvon Hughes on the ground. He romped for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 6.3 yards per carry. The Houston Baptist tackling wouldn’t have been able to slow down a high offense and was atrocious after viewing the tape. Credit UTEP never won a home game since 2016. To find the win, UTEP had to stop a late drive by Houston Baptist deep in Miners’ territory. Until UTEP got a strip sack and turnover in the 19, HBU were flirting with all all the red zone.
The positive there’s that UTEP acquired the win. On the reverse side, that could be the only game the Miners win this year. Looking at their schedule, they’re likely going to be underdogs from the huge majority of their matches. They don’t have the hardest schedule, so it is unlikely, but possible. At a minimum, UTEP should beat Rice in the final match of the regular season in El Paso.
Texas Tech got off in the home to a start against Montana State. They had an FCS competition in Week 1, but managed to throttle them for a 45-10 triumph. One of the quarterback, I believe you’re likely to find in 2019 led all passers in Week 1. He might have had more, but the Red Raiders gashed Armand Shyne also with Montana State on the floor. Pundits in part because of the passing of Kliff Kingsbury are passing over texas Tech. Hughes is the guy the Tech defense must be mindful of most of all.
Kingsbury didn’t leave the cupboard empty for Wells defensively. Their strength is combined with defensive line using all Broderick Washington. He’s fast and powerful and is going to overwhelm the UTEP offensive line here. Expect a lot of drama to go backward for the Miners in this one.
Texas Tech may not own a defense to contend with an offense like Oklahoma but this ought to be easy for them from UTEP. The option shouldn’t deceive the Red Raiders here. If Texas Tech wish to, they could name the score in this match. UTEP are a bottom 5 team from the FBS who aren’t by any means prepared to contend with Texas Tech. 52-14 looks about right, which would be enough for the cover of 34.
